Hurray For Ann!
There's no one I can think of who defines the mentality of the religious right in America better than Ann Coulter. That's giving her a lot of credit, but it is true. Privileged, pampered, selfish, rude, plastic, shallow, greedy, unfeeling and anti-American all come to mind. Annie is the Christian Right's Paris Hilton. Short on facts and tall on rhetoric, Ann works hard at being disgusting and offensive. This is not an attack on Ann. She paints a simile of the Christian religious right wing of the Republican Party of which Ann is a self-proclaimed spokesperson. That's good, and that's bad. It's good because she is easy to see through. It's bad because she also calls herself a conservative and that is offensive.
Before I go too far, I must make a confession, I bought her book. Just one, but that's my last mistake in this case. In case you have already read one of here books, I don't have to explain why her books are worse than a waste of money. In case you haven't yet read one of her books, let me save you some time, buy a comic book instead. If you enjoy shallow diatribes of factless innuendo, you may find one of her books readable, though repetitive. I mean, how many times and way can you say, "Liberals are awful and Christian Republicans are wonderful and everyone in between is an idiot?" Ann has found more ways to say it than you can count, but with a line of hideous un-American dribble that doesn't pause for a breath. It's a regurgitation designed excite those of limited intelligence as it aims to move America toward an Iranian-style religious government model. Does that mean Annie is an idiot? I don't think so, Annie is selling books. Annie is making money. And, it looks to me like Annie doesn't give a damn how stupid she sounds or how much damage she does to the United States. Annie is making money. Hurray for Annie!
I Hate You, I Hate Your Constitution!
Ann Coulter really isn't the problem of the Religious Right just like Paris Hilton isn't the problem of the silver-spoon-fed losers who have no respect for anyone or anything. They just each symbolize the worst characteristics of thier respective groups. Nor are the mental deviates who think Annie's anti-American rhetoric is cute responsible for anything but their own stupidity. The problem is that there are people who take Annie seriously (at least nobody takes Paris Hilton seriously). Annie surely isn't stupid enough to take herself seriously! Yet there are people who believe we would be better off if we took the basic freedoms out of the Constitution and lived in a society where Christian Political Zealots decided what people could do and when and how they could do it. Ann Coulter sells that concept as she dramatically fans the emotional flames of the simple minded. People like Annie lust for the spotlight and will say or do anything to get it, just like Paris Hilton. They truly are sisters.
Annie attacks liberals with every other word, but who is she really attacking. You don't have to listen all that carefully to figure out it includes liberals, moderates, libertarians and true conservatives. Only extreme Christian Right-Wing Republicans are considered correct in her diatribe. It explains why she is so admired by the simple-minded of the far right. She argues against conservative principles and for theocratic control. She believes in a big powerful central government that controls what people can do with their bodies, what people can say and that is free to borrow and spend with no limit. If that is not bad enough, she believes that all freedoms should be filtered through a religious set of laws. She fully supports Bush's huge budget deficit and borrowing. She freely supports the death of our soldiers for no good end. She is the mouth of the absurdly fascist religious right and her following demonstrates there really is a threat to America's freedoms and that threat comes from within.
